A BROOME man who operates a popular microlight flying school has allegedly fled overseas after being charged with child sex offences. An arrest warrant was issued for Charles Gordon Batham, 66, after he failed to appear in the Broome Magistrates Court in February this year on charges of procuring or encouraging a child aged under 13 to engage in sexual activity, indecently recording a child aged under 13 and possession of child pornography. Police say Mr Batham, who operated Broome Trike Flights for more than 10 years, boarded a plane to Kuala Lumpur before his scheduled court appearance. Detective Senior Constable Wayne Davies said it appeared Mr Batham had since left Malaysia. Australian Federal Police and Interpol were assisting efforts to locate him. “Personally I think that (Kuala Lumpur) was a stop-off point, we would have known if he had come back to Australia,” he said. “I believe he has ventured off, whether or not to other parts of Asia or Europe, his whereabouts is unknown at this stage.” A bench warrant has been issued for Mr Batham's arrest.
