Man Guilty of Raping, Killing Student

A man convicted of the murder and sexual assault of Perth student Jiao Dan faces life behind bars.
A Supreme Court jury, which had been deliberating since yesterday, found Dannie Wright, 36, of no fixed address, guilty of the October 2007 murder and sexual assault of the Chinese student.
The jury found Wright not guilty of the more serious charge of wilful murder, PerthNow reports.
Wright has been remanded in custody for sentencing and psychiatric reports. He is facing a life sentence.
Wright denied murdering Ms Jiao as she walked home on October 8, 2007.
Ms Jiao, 22, was raped and left for dead on the side of the road near her house after coming home at night from a cleaning job.
She was bashed, strangled and sexually assaulted with a beer bottle.
Wright said in an act of "stupidity" and "curiosity" he had rummaged in the bin, which explained why his DNA was found on the beer bottle used in the assault.
Mr Wright said he did not mention finding the body because 'it never came up' and because he feared he would be accused of killing the woman.
