Niece Sues Over abuse
A WOMAN is suing her uncle for injuries she
claims she suffered when he allegedly molested her as a child.
In the District Court in February, the woman was
given leave to begin proceedings against her uncle
over personal injuries she alleged she suffered from 1988 to 1994.
The woman, now 21, claimed her uncle sexually
assaulted her many times when she was aged between
four and 10. She says she suffered psychological injuries.
The limitation period to bring an action expired on
February 20 and the woman's lawyers brought an
urgent application on February 17.
A judge granted the application in the absence of
the man but the man later applied to have the
ruling of February 17 set aside.
In a judgment which became available yesterday,
Judge John Robertson dismissed the man's application
which allowed the woman's action to continue.
