Intruder Assaults Sleeping Woman


A NORTHERN suburbs woman was allegedly indecently assaulted by an intruder as she slept in her own bed yesterday.
The 34-year-old Rapid Creek woman awoke about 5am yesterday to find a man next to her bed allegedly indecently assaulting her.
Her partner and children also were asleep in the Aralia St unit at the time of the assault.
The attacker fled when the woman screamed.
Detective Senior-Constable Mark Bennett said police believe the alleged attacker carried out the indecent assault on the spur of the moment.
He is believed to have gained access through an unlocked door and stole a Pentax digital camera before carrying out the indecent assault.
Police do not believe the alleged attacker is a sexual predator who is likely to strike again.
"It appears to be an opportunistic crime," Sen-Constable Bennett said.
"Unfortunately the occupants left a door unlocked and that provided the intruder with easy access to the premises.
"The woman only caught a fleeting glimpse of the offender and provided a description to police.
"Police conducted patrols ofthe area but failed to find any trace of him.
"The victim was obviously shaken by the incident but is handling it well.
"It serves as a reminder to all householders to secure their premises at all times."
The alleged attacker is described as being about 180cm tall, slender build, dark complexion with short black hair.
At the time of the attack, he was wearing a white T-shirt and jeans.
