Ex-Kids' Star Faces Sex Charges

A TERMINALLY ill former children's entertainer has been arrested and taken to an Adelaide court by ambulance to face 30-year-old buggery charges.
Richard Marshall remained prostrate on an ambulance stretcher during a hearing in the South Australian District Court today.
Lawyers for Marshall say the 77-year-old former television identity is dying and should not have been made to attend court.
But Judge Dean Clayton yesterday ordered Marshall be arrested and taken to the court for today's hearing.
Marshall faces charges including three counts of buggery and two counts of indecent assault.
The charges relate to alleged incidents in the 1970s involving two boys, when Marshall was a children's television host and director of a children's theatre.
Marshall had not previously attended any hearing during the 18 months the charges have been before the court.
His lawyer, Maurice McKenney, told the court today the issue of whether Marshall was fit to face trial remained.
Justice Clayton granted Marshall bail and excused him from attending an inquiry to determine if he's fit to face trial.
The court has previously been told Marshall suffers from multiple degenerative and heart conditions.
