Child rapist sent to jail for violating girls

A Sunshine Coast disability pensioner who raped a young girl while sitting her on his knee in a lounge room was yesterday sent to jail after the Maroochydore District Court heard he had indecently dealt with three under-aged girls.
Shane Patrick Baker, 55, pleaded guilty to one charge of rape, one of maintaining a relationship with a child for the purposes of sexual relations of an aggravated nature and 12 counts of aggravated indecent dealing.
Baker had served 13 months for relationship with a young girl which Judge Keith Dodds took into account when sentencing him to five years for rape and two years for maintaining.
The three-times married man and father of two children from a first marriage, was recommended for community release after two years but was ordered to report his whereabouts to police for 10 years after his release.
Yesterdays charges related to assaults on girl from the time she was 11 until 14 and three indecent dealings with her 14-year-old friend up until five years ago.
The rape took place one night in a Coast home when Baker asked the girl to sit on his knee.
He was able to partially insert his penis into the girl after several attempts, but the court was told the penetration was only partial and did not last long. She had told Baker that he was hurting her.
On other occasions Baker would indecently touch her genitals.
The court was told that at one stage Backer supported the girl to stay in a Kings Beach unit not far from Bakers own unit and he would come and visit.
Bakers defence counsel said that Baker had taken steps to reform since getting out of prison on the other offence and had undertaken a sexual offenders course.
He had already served 76 days in custody before the sentencing.
