Group Criticises Paedophile-Identifying Letter Drop

There is concern about the method used by an interstate-based group to raise awareness of convicted paedophiles living in Tasmania.
The Movement Against Kindred Offenders has distributed 500 leaflets in the Hobart suburb of Claremont, identifying the name and address of a resident convicted of a sex offence in the 1990s.
Steve Fisher from the group, Survivors Investigating Child Sex Abuse, says it is a sign of the times as campaigners continue their fight for justice for victims.
Mr Fisher says such letter drops are problematic.
"If, for instance, the wrong person is identified by the people who receive the leaflets, things can happen, like their family can be targeted and so forth," he said.
"I'd much prefer to see a national paedophile register where there is some form of control."
