Nuns Sex Abuse Claims

WASHINGTON: Forty per cent of nuns in the US have been sexually abused, often at the hands of a priest or another nun, an independent study reveals.
The report in the St Louis Post-Dispatch newspaper comes at a sensitive time for the US Catholic Church which is reeling from a year-long sex abuse scandal involving priests and children.
The survey was conducted by researchers at St Louis University and paid for in part by several orders of nuns.
The findings show 34,000 US nuns may have suffered some form of sexual abuse.
The study is the result of a 15-page survey returned by 1184 nuns representing 123 religious orders.
