School Chief In Porn Row
ANOTHER Melbourne school has been rocked by allegations that a trusted employee is
under investigation over child pornography offences.
Norris Bank Primary School's assistant principal, Warwick Nolan, has been barred from
entering the Bundoora school grounds after illegal child pornography was allegedly found
on his laptop.
Mr Nolan, also a phys-ed teacher, was removed immediately the school was informed of
the allegations on August 30.
He has been questioned by the sexual crimes squad and is expected to be charged with
possession of illegal pornography by summons.
Victoria Police have now questioned 89 suspects and executed about 100 warrants
against alleged pedophiles.
Principal Emily Dimitracopoulos said yesterday Mr Nolan was no longer at the school.
It is claimed the photographs of young children were discovered when Mr Nolan's
Department of Education laptop computer was being serviced by computer technicians.
None of the photographs was of students from Norris Bank.
"It's an absolute shock to the school. It's deeply distressing," Ms Dimitracopoulos said.
Angry and distressed parents were being counselled at the school yesterday. They were
informed by a letter that asked parents to support the school.
"Norris Bank Primary School takes its duty of care to your child extremely seriously, and
we wish to reassure you that, we believe, at no time was your child, or any other student,
exposed to any illegal material or placed at risk of harm," the letter stated.
But it was still no comfort for parents, who huddled anxiously as they waited to collect their
children yesterday.
One woman was appalled by the allegations against the assistant principal, a teacher of
12 years at the school.
"I have been in to see my kids in the school today and have been reassured they are
being very well looked after, with a counsellor on hand at all times," she said.
"We are happy with how the school is handling the situation or we would have pulled our
kids out."
Another mother supported Mr Nolan, reminding people he was innocent until proven guilty.
"He is really good with the kids ... just wonderful with the kids," the mother of three said.
A teacher at St Simon's school in Rowville was suspended on October 4 over allegations
he possessed child pornography.
The next day, the principal at St Therese's Catholic primary school in Torquay was
suspended in the child pornography crackdown.
A cleaner was also removed from Karringal Park Secondary College, near Frankston.
