Two More Vicious Assaults On Women
ANOTHER two women
have become the victims of
vicious sexual assaults in
the metropolitan area.
Despite the latest attacks
and amid growing public
outrage, police continue to
assure the public that the
number of attacks in Adelaide is not on the increase.
Sexual Crime Investigation Branch Senior
Sergeant Paul Lewandowski
said police were enlisting the
help of the public to catch
sex attackers.
"There is now a willingness
by the public in making more
reports to police about these
attacks," he said yesterday.
"And by reporting these
matters, it allows us (the
police) to better investigate
and also to bring warnings to
the public."
Police came under fire
earlier this week after The
Advertiser revealed they
had waited 18 days to tell the
public about the alleged violent assault of two schoolgirls at Christies Beach.
A 30-year-old southern
suburbs man was arrested
on Tuesday but only after he
allegedly attacked a 12-year-
old girl.
In the latest incidents, a
woman was sexually assaulted by two cyclists as she
walked along a bike track at
Kurralta Park yesterday.
The woman, aged in her
late 20s, was walking near
McArthur Ave about 4am
when she was approached by
the men.
Police said she was forced
into a grassed area just
metres from the path and
sexually assaulted.
The men's bicycles were
described as a silver Malvem
Star racing bike and a
Mongoose high range mountain bike, with blue front
forks and handle bars and
violet and white two-tone
frame. The second bike had
a red flashing tail light.
The victim was yesterday
working with police to construct a composite image of
her attackers.
"Certainly this is a cowardly and vicious attack,"
Sen-Sgt Lewandowski said.
After a separate attack,
Elizabeth police are seeking
information after a girl was
sexually assaulted at Davoren Park about 3:30pm on
Wednesday.
The girl was approached
by a man on the corner of
Petherton Rd and Crafter St
and asked questions of a
sexual nature. The man then
indecently assaulted the girl
and exposed himself before
walking off.
The man was described as
Caucasian, between 16 and
20 years of age, 170cms with
a masculine build, short fair
hair and a pock-marked face.
He was wearing a blue
T-shirt with the number 7 on
the front and the word Original on the back, blue track
pants and old ripped blue
sports shoes.
The attacks follow several
others in the past few weeks.
In Walkerville on Tuesday
at 8.20am, a girl was walking
along Stephen Tce when she
was approached by a man
standing next to a white van.
After a brief altercation, the
girl was able to break free
and run from the man - she
was not hurt in the attack.
Anyone with any information on any of these attacks should contact Crime
Stoppers - 1800 333 000.
Yesterday, a man faced the
Adelaide Magistrates Court
charged with one count of
indecent assault, two counts
of common assault and two
counts of carrying an offensive weapon over the
Christies Beach and Coromandel Valley attacks.
An application for bail was
refused and he was remanded in custody to appear again next week.
