A PERVERT masquerading as a male nurse tried to intimately examine a woman in hospital just hours after she had given birth yesterday. The man, who had a squeaky feminine sounding voice, entered the ward at Randwick's Royal Hospital for Women about 6.30am (AEDT). He tried to touch the 36-year-old woman but she guessed he was a fraud and raised the alarm as he fled. Police are investigating it as an attempted indecent assault. "A man entered a ward and told a patient that he was a nurse," a hospital spokeswoman said last night. "The patient was suspicious that he was not wearing proper identification and reported the incident to the nurse in charge. Staff saw the male leaving the ward but were unable to detain him." She said the matter was immediately referred to security and police, who interviewed patients and staff. The spokeswoman was unable to give details about the woman or her condition last night. A staff member at the hospital said: "We have thieves coming in all the time. It's really hard to stop them. We're a hospital, not a prison." Witnesses said the offender was wearing a white-collared shirt with a tattoo visible on his chest.
