Crime Victims Need More Help
|
The results of a survey of crime victims in
South Australia were recently released in Report
Two of the Victims of Crime Review conducted by the Attorney
General's Department. The majority of victims appear
to need more information and/ or support.
Some key findings from the resonses were:
Half the
victims in country regions did
not recieve the Information for
victims of crime booklet.
Nearly a third of metropolitan
vcitims did not receive the booklet.
60% of victims are not referred
for counselling or support.
Most victims are not told about
Criminal Injuries Compensation.
Over 80% of victims want more
information about their cases.
Over half the victims surveyed
received the help they needed but
around 40% did not.
65% of victims from across a range
of crimes suffer emotionally
The survey confirmed many of the findings
in Report One of the Victims of Crime Review
and indicate that there are still many unmet
needs for information and assistance.
The findings reported here are only a "snapshot"
of the most topical and interesting to our wide
range of readers.
All the victims of Crime Review Reports are in
our resource Centre for your reference.
