QUEENSLAND police have shot at a man who sparked a chase after he allegedly tried to break into caravans while naked.

Officers were called to the Hydeaway Bay Caravan Park near Proserpine in central Queensland, after reports a naked man was trying to gain entry to several caravans about 7.45am (AEST) today, a police spokeswoman said.
The man allegedly fled into nearby bushland before driving off, fully clothed.
A spokeswoman said the man tried to force several police vehicles off the road during the chase and threw a sawn-off shotgun from the four-wheel-drive.
The man drove into bushland and abandoned the car.
The spokeswoman two police officers later found the man and called for him to stop before firing a shot at about 9.45am.
"The man allegedly returned to his vehicle to pick up a black bag and began to draw an object from the bag," she said.
"The officers called for the man to drop the bag and item however the man allegedly refused.
"One police officer then fired a single shot from his service firearm. No one was injured."
The spokeswoman said man dropped the bag and fled but was captured a short time later.
The circumstances surrounding the shot were being investigated by the Ethical Standards Command, she said.
