A 17-year-old north Queensland boy has been charged after trying to sexually assault three women. Police allege the teenager attempted to rape women aged 76 and 46 and tried to sexually assault a 65-year-old during a two-hour period in Innisfail today. The 17-year-old allegedly tried to rape the 76-year-old in a car park about 6.30am (AEST) before running off when the woman's screams were heard by a passing man. The 76-year-old suffered a broken shoulder and was taken to Innisfail Hospital. Police said shortly afterwards the boy entered an Innisfail home and attempted to rape the 46-year-old but fled after the woman managed to escape. About 8.30am, the teenager allegedly confronted the 65-year-old walking near her Innisfail property but ran away when the woman fought him off. The teenager was charged with assault with intent to commit rape, attempt rape, deprivation of liberty and serious assault for the alleged attack on the 76-year-old. For the alleged attack on the 46-year-old, the teen was charged with assault with intent to rape, attempt rape, deprivation of liberty, burglary and robbery. The 17-year-old was charged with attempt sexual assault for the alleged incident involving the 65-year-old. He also faces a charge of stealing from an Innisfail service station. He has been remanded in custody and will appear in Innisfail Magistrate Court tomorrow. AAP (21-5-2006) |
