Bail Extended For Baby Dryer Accused

A MAN accused of putting a baby in a clothes dryer and turning it on remains on bail after appearing in a Perth court for the second time.
Samuel Marc Barnes-Siddall, 21, from Beldon, is charged with grievous bodily harm after he allegedly put 13-month-old Mia Jade Jeffrey into a clothes dryer and turned it on for several minutes on May 25.
The girl's mother had left the child with Mr Siddall for about an hour while she went to a gym, police said.
Police investigated the incident after the hospital where the baby was treated told them the child's injuries were suspicious and highly unusual.
Mr Siddall appeared in Joondalup Magistrates' Court today but was not required to enter a plea.
Magistrate Richard Bayly adjourned the matter to give police time to submit a report detailing the baby's injuries.
Mr Siddall's bail was extended on the condition that he did not approach or contact the mother or child.
He is due to appear in the same court on July 26.
Mr Siddall was granted bail when he first appeared before the Joondalup Magistrates' Court on May 30.

Baby Burnt In Clothes Dryer

A 13-month-old Perth girl suffered serious burns when she was put in a clothes dryer, police said today
The baby was left with the boyfriend of her mother at suburban Warwick when the woman went to the gym for about an hour last Thursday, police said.
The baby spilt liquid on herself and the man put her in the clothes dryer and turned it on.
The girl suffered serious burns to her feet and hands and bruising to the face, arms and back.
"We received information from Princess Margaret Hospital's child protection unit, which said the injuries were suspicious and highly unusual," a police spokesman said.
A 21-year-old man from suburban Beldon is expected to appear in Perth Magistrates' Court later today, charged with causing bodily harm or danger.

Man Accused Of Putting Baby In Dryer

A 13-month-old Perth baby sustained major burns when she was put in a clothes dryer, police said.
The baby was left with her mother's boyfriend at a home in suburban Warwick while the woman went to a gym for about an hour on Thursday.
The baby spilt liquid on herself and the man put her in the clothes dryer and turned it on, police said.
"The person we allege has done the act has stated that he has put the child into a clothes tumble dryer, closed the door and turned it on for a couple of minutes," Senior Detective Deb Newman said. "The child had burns to both feet, to one of her hands, burns and bruising to her back and bruising to her forehead.
"The injuries are horrific. In my years of being a police officer I have not seen this type of injury before."
The mother returned home to find her baby had serious burns but her boyfriend did not mention the dryer, she said.
Snr Det Newman said the mother was distraught. However, she was assured her baby would make a full recovery and would be released from the burns unit later this week.
Samuel Marc Barnes Siddall, 21, of Beldon, appeared in Perth Magistrate's Court yesterday charged with causing bodily harm or danger.
He was granted bail on condition that he did not approach, or contact, the mother and child. He is due to appear in court at a date to be set.
