Samoa: Warning To Paedophiles

Following the recent conviction of a paedophile who enticed a young Samoan boy aboard his yacht for immoral purposes, he Minister of Police, Ulu Vaomalo Ulu Kini, has issued the following press release.
“Following the conviction and sentencing on Friday 3rd October 2003 of a 49 year old Australian yachtsman to imprisonment for two years and nine months for indecently assaulting a 15 year old Samoan boy, I give the following official warning to all visitors to Samoa.”
“Any person who comes to Samoa and tries to sexually assault or otherwise mistreat any Samoan child will be caught, prosecuted and punished severely. Under Samoan law, having sex with a child is punishable by imprisonment.
In the case of indecent assault, the penalty is up to seven years imprisonment. In the case of rape, the penalty is imprisonment for life.” We will not tolerate our children being sexually exploited.
The Samoan Criminal Justice System, including the Police, the Office of the Attorney General and the Samoan Courts will take every action necessary to protect Samoa’s most valuable resource, our children. Thankfully, the recent incident, involving a 49 year old Australian yachtsman, appears to be a rare event.
Nevertheless I warn all paedophiles. DON’T COME TO SAMOA. We will catch you and punish you to the full extent of the law. “If, by some unfortunate twist of fate a paedophile is already in the country and is preying on local children, in the guise of a family friend, take heed, this warning is also for you.
I have arranged to have this warning published overseas to ensure that all visitors to Samoa are aware of our laws and our commitment and determination to protect Samoa’s children.”
