THE average child
molester or abductor is
a person over 25 years of
age, single, who lives alone or
with parents.
The person associates mainly
with young people and is highly
skilled in identifying vulnerable
victims.
The offender also has hobbies
and interests that children find
appealing.
The profile was compiled by
SAPOL's criminal profiler
Sergeant Robyn Filmer of the
Violent Crime Unit.
"It is Impossible to categorise
human behavior into specific
classifications that will be applicable to all situations,"
Sergeant Filmer said.
"However, it is possible to
analyse an offender's behavior
prior to and during the attack
and be able to identify the type
of person who has committed
the crime."
Currently in South Australia
there are seven unsolved cases
of children abducted and believed murdered.

Police warn parents to
be vigilant about
their children's
whereabouts at all times and be
aware of who they are associating with.
"If you go back into our history we have a past regarding
children being abducted and
presumed murdered." acting officer in charge of Major Crime
Chief Superintendent Trevor
Johnson said.
"And then you have separate
incidents related to family
breakdown.
"We have bad terrible incidents including a mother who
murdered her 10-month-old
baby after a relationship break-
up.
"A nine-month-old baby was
abducted and murdered by her
father after a domestic break
down. In another case a man
murdered his de facto wife an
their young child.
"In most instances the
younger-type children are being
taken out of a domestic environment, such as the family home
by the other partner,
"At the extreme end of the
cycle you have the actual physical harm brought about to the
child if there is not early police
intervention."
In America child abductions are bringing communities together.
When a child is abducted in a department store etc..
an alert is raised and every staff member stops work
immediately and look for the abducted child.
