Pedophile Raymond Edward Mountford jailed for seven years
THE mother of three boys emotionally crippled by a serial pedophile has vented her fury at a District Court sentence that could free him in less than four years.
Raymond Edward Mountford was today jailed for a total of seven years for the sexual abuse of six boys and a girl between 1973 and 2003.
Mountford, 68, pleaded guilty to 15 charges, including indecent assault and unlawful sexual intercourse.
But Judge Wayne Chivell said the charges were representative of countless acts of abuse over decades.
Mountford, of Dandenong, stood impassively in the dock as Judge Chivell outlined harrowing details of the abuse, which left the victims with "an overpowering anger that still plagues their lives".
Judge Chivell said Mountford was guilty of an "unforgiveable" breach of trust towards his victims, who were mostly aged between seven and eleven.
Psychiatrists said Mountford met the diagnosis of a serial pedophile and would pose a risk of reoffending if ever allowed near children unsupervised.
Furious that Mountford could be released in less than four years, the mother said he would be a menace to children as long as he lived.
"After four years he can get parole then he's back out on the street again free to do what he wants yet again to any other kid and I'll guarantee you, he will reoffend again," she said.
"His name, his photo should be plastered out there everywhere for everyone to know."
Mountford, who molested one of his victims while giving him piano lessons, was "candid" with psychiatrists about his perversion towards young boys.
Judge Chivell said Mountford's wife continued to stand by him despite his admissions and that she accompanied him on any public outings to ensure he did not reoffend.
The mother said she doubted the sincerity of Mountford's claims that he was deeply sorry for his crimes.
"I've got two that don't live at home with me because of what he's done because of their anger issues and then I've got another one and he doesn't go out anywhere because of what this idiot has done to him," she said.
The woman said she was also frustrated that police had put in so much effort to win a conviction.
"This is not fair, it's not fair on any of them. I just think it's disgusting how the court system works."
