Bond Set For Man Arrested In Internet Sting

HARVEY FACES FOUR CHARGES

COLUMBUS, Ohio- A judge set bond at $500,000 for a man who police said tried to have sex with a 13-year-old boy he met on the Internet.
Donald Harvey, 55, was arrested Tuesday outside a southside fast-food restaurant.
Columbus police said that Harvey e-mailed who he thought was a 13-year-old boy and asked him to engage in different sex acts. A Columbus police detective was posing as the teen.
Police said Harvey was the administrator for a religious Internet site that reached out to young people. Postings about Harvey's arrest were on the site Wednesday.
Harvey faces four charges, including child pornography and attempting to have sex with a minor.
Harvey, a married father of three, has criminal convictions on similar offenses in New Hampshire and Florida.

Man Arrested In Internet Sex Sting

HARVEY CHARGED WITH ATTEMPTED UNLAWFUL SEXUAL CONDUCT

COLUMBUS, Ohio - A Columbus man was arrested Tuesday and charged after a month-long Internet sex sting operation, NewsChannel 4's Nancy Burton reported.
Donald A. Harvey, 55, was charged with attempted unlawful sexual conduct with a minor after police said he suggested engaging in sexual conduct with a child via the Internet.
Police said Harvey repeatedly talked with detectives posing as a 13-year-old boy via the Internet. Police said Harvey suggested that he would engage in sexual conduct with the teen and that he sent pornographic images to the teen via the Internet.
Police said Harvey left his handicapped daughter alone at home and attempted to meet the teen boy Tuesday and engage in sexual conduct, Burton reported. Detectives arrested Harvey upon his arrival at the meeting point at a fast-food restaurant at Central Point near Sullivant Avenue and Mound Street, Burton reported.
Police stayed with Harvey's daughter until his wife got home from work, Burton reported.
The officer who posed at the teen said he communicated with Harvey for a month by phone, Internet and e-mail, Burton reported.
Harvey, a married father of three, has past criminal convictions on similar offenses in New Hampshire and Florida.
Police said Harvey claims a connection with a Web site and volunteers to counsel youth using a religious message.
Police said the Columbus Police Juvenile Bureau, the Franklin County Prosecutor's Office and law enforcement agencies in Indiana and University Circle, Ohio, conducted the monthlong investigation.
