Killer Mum 'Wanted To Give baby To God'
THE night before a Texan
housewife killed her
10-month-old daughter, she
told her husband she wanted
to "give her child to God".
The following morning,
court documents show,
Dena Schlosser, 35, called
husband, John, at work and
told him she had cut off the
arms of their youngest
daughter, Margaret Elizabeth. Child Protective Services took custody of the
couple's surviving daughters, aged 6 and 9, when their
mother was charged with
capital murder.
The agency asked a judge
yesterday to terminate the
parental rights of both
parents, stating Mr Schlosser did not protect Margaret from his wife. Caseworker
Jennifer Leung interviewed
Mr Schlosser and said: "He
did not appear to be alarmed
by the comment or see it as
a sign Mrs Schlosser would
harm their child," an affidavit says.
Mrs Schlosser worked at
the Children's World Learning Centre in Plano before
her daughter's birth in January. CPS records show she
was treated for postpartum
depression for much of the
year but was deemed stable
in August.
Public records show Mrs
Schlosser did not have a
criminal record.
Mr Schlosser called the
day-care centre on Tuesday
after his wife called him and
told him she had cut the
baby's arms off, court records say.
He asked a woman there to
check on his wife while he
drove home from work.
She called Mrs Schlosser
and asked a co-worker to call
police. A dispatcher called
Mrs Schlosser, who told him:
"I cut her arms off," an
emergency call recording reveals. When police arrived,
Mrs Schlosser still had a
knife in her hand, court records show. Plano Officer
David Tilley coaxed the knife
away from her. Police found
Margaret lying in her crib in
the back bedroom, her arms
severed at the shoulders.
Plano police said yesterday they still were searching
for answers as to why Mrs
Schlosser might hurt her
baby. They still needed to
interview friends and family.
"We don't know," the
police said.
